The key to saving the environment is less water consumption. Since the bathroom is, naturally, the heavier drunkard in your home, then reducing its consumption will not only help the environment, but also your budget. Recently I spoke with Sydney-based plumbing company, asked them for advice, and they recommended that the first thing you should do is to install a low-flow shower head which saves up to a half of water during showering. In choosing the faucet you should have the similar in mind – don’t waste water when you don’t need it. Both, low-flow shower heads and faucets come in beautiful shapes and sizes, and they can make the center of your bathroom décor. Next thing you could do is to install a dual-flush or any other kind of low-flush toilet. You chose one of two buttons for used water quantity and like that you control water consumption.

When it comes to hot water, a great solution is installing tank-less (demand-type) water heating system. This kind of water heater provides you hot water whenever you need it but it doesn’t produce the standby energy losses which are connected with regular storage water heaters. If you don’t have a budget for this now, you can at last isolate the pipes and the heater itself, thus preventing the wasting of energy.

Another creative way to use less water, is to install a whole house water filter, for your home. This way, you can remove chemicals that cause water “hardness,” and you’re left with “soft” water, which requires less soap, shampoo, etc.

The next element you should keep in mind is the air, that is, ventilation. In order to avoid mold and dampness that can damage your walls and cost you a lot in the future, it would be best if you open windows immediately after every shower and air out bathroom whenever you remember.

To create a spa-like atmosphere, you can use or make yourself an eco-friendly air freshener, or even better – put plants which will clean the air and will look great in your new bathroom. There’s nothing more natural than a flower.

Bathroom tiles are economic and eco-friendly, and they are easy for maintenance and will reduce the time you spend in the bathroom. Just clean the condensed water after showering. They come in various designs and different materials of which are recycled, ceramic and stone tiles that are most environmentally friendly. Make sure to combine tiles with a good choice of low or no VOC paint, preferably white color, which will visually make the space look bigger. Also, take into consideration paint that reduces the creation of mold.

If you think your bathroom is overcrowded, then you may consider installing a vanity cabinet under the sink, and putting away all the unnecessary items that are often found all over the place. This will give your bathroom a sense of order and flawlessness, and you will always know where to look for them if in need. Make sure to use the same color as the walls, the sink, and the bathtub, and combine it with a material that perfectly will fit in with the rest of the room.
