Undergoing a breast augmentation surgery is an obvious sign that you care about how you look. Working out is another, and they are mutually inclusive since the effect of your aesthetic surgery will be less positive and long-lasting if you do not dedicate enough time to exercising your body after augmentation. All this out of to two reasons, medical and aesthetic. Simply, the rest of your body should follow in terms of appearance and shape if you wish to keep the symmetry of your body, and you need to strengthen the upper body muscles to enable them to carry the weight of your augmented breasts and avoid possible problems with your back if you fail to do so. However, there is a set of rules you have to follow if you wish to make the exercises you do after breast augmentation worthwhile and long-term successful. Remember, even though it is a cosmetic surgery, it is as traumatic and invasive as a medical one.
General advice is that it takes at least six to eight weeks until you should return to your intensive work out regime. However, that does not mean you should lie in bed and avoid any kind of exercise. The process is gradual and if you carefully go through the following lines, the time will pass quickly and you will get back to your work out routine almost unnoticeable.
Consult your physician before doing any kind of exercise and keep him or her informed at all times. Be patient and go through the process of recovery step by step, gradually increasing intensity of exercises. Make sure you always wear a suitable, well supportive sports or medical bra whenever you do any kind of exercise, walking, stretching, or anything else for that matter.
IN THE BEGINNING
The first recovery phase lasts between one and three weeks, depending on the size of your implants compared to your natural breasts. The best way, in any case is to start by walking short distances, as long as you are comfortable with it. Light stretching of your shoulders will have a positive effect on the circulation and healing, as well. Avoid high-impact activities. Gradually increase intensity until you are able to make the full circle in shoulder joint. You can start light lower body exercises, but make sure you do not put any pressure on the upper body, especially the chest area since it still has not fully healed. Naturally, if any pain occurs, stop and make sure you pay a visit to your doctor the next day
IN THE MIDDLE
In weeks four to five you are half way through your recovery. You can start using treadmill or get back to running track, however, nothing too intensive and strenuous is allowed yet. You can start with small weight exercises and begin full stretches of your upper body and easy strengthening exercises. Breast augmentation surgery requires you to pay attention to improving the strength of your upper-back muscles in order for your torso to be able to carry the new weight and keep a proper stance. After all, you want to make your new breasts to look attractive and add to your general appearance, not to make you hunch.
As we said before, it usually takes six to eight weeks for your skin, tissue and muscles to be ready to undergo full-scale physical exercises without consequences. The exact time span depends on the volume of augmentation, your constitution, age and degree of fitness your body had prior to surgery. So, do not stick strictly to the numbers. In this phase you can start with bench press and push ups. However, do not overdo until you feel you are completely ready. Of course, make sure you stretch your shoulder and torso area before any further exercising. This you grow into habit for the rest of your life, you need to keep the upper body muscles elastic and in good shape.
Once more, if you, or more importantly your doctor, feel that you need more time, by all means allow yourself to have it. Your body will appreciate it and there really is no rush. After all, you decided to have your breasts enlarged to look better and it is supposed to last, not to be an overnight sensation.
